Whoever wrote that deck doesn't know how to spell the name of one of the most infamous public figures in recent history. That's pretty sad. I've come to expect a lot more from unpaid interns for British GQ than this.
I read it as a man jealous of the success of others and that they haven't become utterly compromised with age and a pension looming.

That said the Guardian can be utterly infuriatingly anti-west and populist but it's still good to have Hamilton equivalents at major newspapers. US newspapers toe the line to an amazing extent on things like Snowden.
If "goes undercover" means not disclosing your sources or even posting links to articles or items mentioned — the basis of the world wide web and the minimum effort required to verify your statements — than job well done.
